As the awareness of issues specific to women has increased, so have the options for treatment. Women today pay more attention to their bodies during recreation, work, and daily activities. Women’s health issues can affect all aspects of your life, but they don’t need to. At Jones Physical Therapy, Dr. Jones uses every facet of her physical therapy training to evaluate and provide treatment for women and men. Dr. Jones has specialized training in the field of women’s health including pelvic floor, obstetrics, and gynecology. She has also had extensive training in rectal and vaginal examination. Dr. Jones is currently completing her CAPP certification. The following are issues commonly treated at Jones Physical Therapy:

Incontinence Women's Health > Incontinence

This is any involuntary loss of urine. It can be with coughing/sneezing, activity, or urgency. Treatment consists of manual techniques, training of pelvic floor muscles, strengthening, and bladder training techniques.

Pregnancy Women's Health > Pregnancy

During this exciting time, your body is going through a lot of changes. Due to increased laxity and your changing body, you are more prone to injury and pain.

Dr. Jones will evaluate you to find the cause of your discomfort and use manual techniques and exercise to reduce your symptoms. Maternity belts can help support your spine and sacroiliac joint (pain when standing up from seated position).  An exercise program can also be customized for you to stay fit and prepare you for delivery.

Issues such as diastasis recti, c-section care, nutrition, and perineal massage will also be discussed with you along with any other concerns you may have.

After delivery, an exercise program to improve the strength and function of the pelvic floor muscles can be customized. Vaginal weights and electrical stimulation can help restore your strength and function. Manual techniques may be required to reduce scar tissue if tearing or episiotomy occurred. Shoulder, neck, and back pain may also occur with care of your infant.

Pelvic Pain Women's Health > Pelvic Pain

Symptoms of pelvic pain include a “deep ache” anywhere from your belly button to your bottom. It may present as pain with intercourse or exercise. You may even feel it more as groin pain. A thorough exam of the muscles, ligaments, and joints is conducted to evaluate possible causes of the problem. Ultimately, an internal exam is the best form of evaluation, however, if you are uncomfortable with this or fear that you will not tolerate it, there are other options. Treatment includes manual techniques, electrical stimulation, and a customized program.

Osteoporosis Women's Health > Osteoporosis

This is a disease of weak bones. Strengthening programs customized to your needs will be developed to decrease your risk of injury and to decrease discomfort and pain. Electrical stimulation can also be used for pain relief.  Osteoporosis is preventable with exercise, proper diet, and overall wellness.

Fibromyalgia Women's Health > Fibromylagia

This is a debilitating disease. It does not only cause pain and fatigue, but frustration and at times depression. Dr. Jones uses physiologic quieting and myofascial releasing to reduce inflammation and to reduce symptoms during exacerbations. A customized exercise program will be developed for you with care as it is easy to “over do” it with this condition. At Jones Physical Therapy, you will learn about your flare ups and have tools to get through them. Get the support and treatment you deserve.

Dysmenorrhea, Dyspareunia, Interstitial Cystitis Women's Health > Dysmenorrhea, Dyspareunia, Internal Cystitis

These are all painful issues. Manual techniques along with physiologic quieting are included in their treatment. A thorough examination will be performed to identify any primary causes or contributing factors. These issues can be very frustrating and complex. It is helpful to have a team approach in treatment. Dr. Jones works frequently with other providers including OB/GYNs, nurse practioners, physician assistants, and psychologists.
